A couple of days ago the official release dates and shoes dropping out the collaboration between Nike and Virgil Abloh’s Off White were revealed. We have been seeing images of the different shoes popping on the internet for months now, but finally a few dates are there for this most hyped release: September in different Nikelabs and events in New York City, London, Milan and Paris and November for a most widely drop at Nike retailers.
The collection is divided in two parts: Revealing (Air Jordan I, Nike Air Max 90, Nike Air Presto, Nike Air Vapormax and Nike Blazer Mid) and Ghosting, which have more translucent colorways (Converse Chuck Taylor, Nike Zoom Fly SP, Nike Air Force I Low, Nike Hyperdunk 2017 und Nike Air Max 97). The theme or Idea behind this collaboration is the functional deconstruction of all this iconic silhouettes, showing the utility of every shoe-element as a word, for example “AIR” or “SHOELACES”.
The full concept and approach of this project is surreal to me. I do not really like most of the pieces from Virgil’s brand Off White and I do not really understand the hype behind it, apart of him being related to Kanye West. But I feel he really did a tremendous job with this one and through the collection you could tell how of a talented and visionary designer this guy is.
The favorites silhouettes for me are obviously the Jordan 1s and also the Vapormaxes, Blazers and Air Maxes 97. The Jordan is going to be definitely one of the shoes of this year, maybe in competition with the Kaws Jordan IV. It is interesting to see how hard Nike and Jordan brands went this year with all they collaborative efforts (Kaws, Off White, SkAir, Undefeated even the sadly non-happening VLone), i feel like Adidas has to put the work and come back in the last months of the year, and the Yeezy-hype I do not think is taking care of that but maybe Pharrell. Lets see, and hope first that The Ten collection is available and affordable for everybody.
